How Do You True Your Seams?

Truing seams is a term for ensuring the stitch lines match when sewn together. It is particularly important when making pattern adjustments. For many, this is a way to ensure smooth lines but ensuring the measurement matches.

Some common methods include:
👉 Walk the seam between the pattern pieces
👉 Measuring the seam of the pattern pieces
👉 Checking the seam length between the pattern pieces (digital)
👉 Eyeballing it

Did you know that's a second part to truing seams? Once the seam lengths match, the seam angles or corners should also match. If you've ever noticed odd divots in curved seams or pointy hemlines after alterations where there was none previously, take a look at the seam corners.
